Golden Age of Piracy > Locations
Locations
Background
Locations were one of the biggest components of piracy next to the pirate ship. Locations such as the ones at Nassau, Madagascar and Tortuga were essential for pirates to careen their ships, recruit new pirates and sell their stolen supplies. Piracy did not exist in a vacuum, there were hundreds of men and women who profited off of the pirates trade.
Pirates needed ports that would accept them and their goods or else the entire endeavor was nothing. Ports that had a strong British or Spanish military presence would prosecute the pirates and any merchants that dealt with them. However, in places pirates controlled the territory and thus a pirate haven developed.
