Cornelis Janszoon van de Velde
Background
Cornelis Janszoon van de Velde also known as 'Dromcap' was a Dutch buccaneer during the Buccaneering Era. In 1650 he was captain of the Vlissingen and in October of that year he attacked two Portuguese merchant ships near the Isle of Fernando Noronha. He managed to catch one of the ships and afterwards he met up with fellow buccaneer Bartholomeus de Jager where the two captured the sugar laden Consciencia.
After the prize was seized the sugar was split between the buccaneers and Cornelius sailed with Bartholomeus back to the Dutch Republic to offload the goods and get their money. Nothing more is known about Cornelis Janszoon van de Velde after this point.
